Each year Victoria Skimboards hosts the highly anticipated World Championship of Skimboarding (WCS) at OC Parks’ beautiful Aliso Beach. This year’s competition will take place on Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For the first time in the history of the competition, a professional women’s division is being offered. The event has hosted only an amateur women’s division previously. Two of the females confirmed to compete in the Pro Event are San Clemente resident and Slostik skimboarder, Shonna Cobb and San Diego native Tia D'ambrosioa. Both women are past favorites from the Amateur Event and now Pro Event prospective finalists. The men’s Pro Event welcomes back Exile skimboarder and 2009 world champion Brandon Sears of Dana Point and Victoria Skimboard’s own 14-time world champion and Laguna Beach resident, Bill Bryan.
The Pro Event is open to the 50 most qualified male and female registrants. Participation in the Amateur Event is open to 80 of the most qualified male and female riders of all ages.
Five skimboarding industry leaders will judge the competition. The winners will be announced Sunday afternoon, June 20, on the beach directly following the last ride. The championship is open to the public for viewing participation. Early arrival is strongly suggested.
