The USA Water Polo National Aquatic Center opened in 2000 and was created from a once-swampy pool on the joint-use base.
World-class polo matches, tournaments and training take place at the outdoor pool, which is expansive but set in spartan surroundings that consist of not much more than bleachers and a small locker-room building.
During certain times of the week, the heated pool is open for recreational swimming, lessons and swimming clubs. Recreational swimming is allowed from 7-8:30 a.m. on Saturdays (and noon-1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday). Two lifeguards are on duty.
The city of Los Alamitos offers a Swim and Stay Fit Lap Swimming Program that allows you to track your progress with daily workout plans and completion certificates awarded at certain miles-reached marks. For more information, call the city's Recreation and Community Services department: 562-430-1073, ext. 511.
