Foro Sol

Foro Sol is a sports and concerts venue built in 1995 inside the Hermanos Rodríguez racetrack in eastern Mexico City. It is located 10 minutes away from the Mexico City International Airport and is operated by Grupo CIE.

The venue was originally built just to be a place where to receive big music shows, which can accommodate up to 50,000 people. Since 2000, it has been used as a baseball stadium as well, because the only other major baseball stadium in Mexico City (Parque del Seguro Social, formerly Parque Delta) was demolished to build a mall.

It is home to the Mexico City Red Devils Mexican Baseball League team.

Its name comes from a popular beer brand and it is the only case of corporate name sponsorship for a venue in Mexico City.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd,Rush, Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode, U2, Robbie Williams, Madonna, Britney Spears, Shakira, Korn, Marilyn Manson, High School Musical and Aerosmith have performed there. The next biggest musical performance to take place will be in the return of the Argentinian rock band, Soda Stereo, who will play there November 15 and 16. On Nobember 24, The Police will be performing there during their The Police Reunion Tour.

On December 3, 1997, introducing the song "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" during U2's Popmart Tour Bono said "Thank you for building this... whatever this is", referring to the odd structure of the venue, not intended to be a stadium. This concert was later released as a video, Popmart: Live from Mexico City, and as a fan-club exclusive live album, Hasta la Vista Baby!.

Foro Sol can be considered second in capacity for large concert attendance in Mexico City after the aging, but very functional, Estadio Azteca.

Over the years, Foro Sol has been criticized for not being up to international standards of concert venues of similiar size and capacity, being more a a permanent improvised arena than a full fledged, well equiped stadium, and given the fact that ticket prices are the same or sometimes more expensive than better but similar venues arround the world. For this reason, it is much prefered for Mexico City concerts to be carried out at the Auditorio Nacional, a smaller but world class venue of international recognition, but of smaller capacity. The other concert venue being the Palacio de los Deportes (Sports Palace, yet another improvised concert arena from what was once the 1968 Olympic Games basketball arena) has earned the nickname "Palacio de los Rebotes" (Palace of Echoes) for its poor acoustics.
