With the nutrient rich waters and deep underwater canyons just outside the mouth of Newport Harbor, great amounts of marine life congregate to feed. Grey Whales, dolphins, seal lions, porpoises, harbor seals, and marine birds are just some of the many creatures that a typical Newport Landing whale watching tour may encounter. Unlike Los Angeles Harbor, Long Beach Harbor, and Dana Point Harbor; Newport Harbor is surrounded by deep nutrient rich waters and it is quite common to find Gray whales just outside Newport Harbor's entrance. With the pristine Laguna Beach coastline just south of the harbor and ample coastline along Huntington Beach, odds are very high that grey whales and dolphin are both viewed on a single whale watching trip.Newport Landing offers three trips Monday thru Friday and three trips on the Weekends/Holidays. Each cruise is roughly 2 ½ hours long and refreshments and snacks are available on the ship's snack bar. Newport Landing with over 20 years of whale watching for Los Angeles and Orange County has provided whale watching tours to families and their kids, grandkids and great grand kids making Newport Landing a whale watching tradition that we are very proud of. Private whale watching charters or boat rentals are also available.

Recently, myself and two friends came to Newport to go whale watching from Palos Verdes because we heard whale watching was great down there. We previously went whale watching out of Long Beach which was awesome! But, anyway, we tried this Newport Gig and it was horrible. The Newport area itself is great though. So, it took us well over two hours to to get down there and parking was impossible. When we finally go on the ship, the crew seemed disorganized and aloof. We saw 1 dolphin and no whales. I will never go on this trip again and I do not recommend it. Much better sand more accessible whale watching in Long Beach.
