Christopher Cross

Christopher Cross (born Christopher Charles Geppert on May 3, 1951) is an American singer-songwriter known for his many adult contemporary hits including "Sailing," "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do," and "Ride Like the Wind."

Cross exploded onto the contemporary scene in 1980 with his hit album "Christopher Cross" released by Warner Bros. Records. The album featured the aforementioned "Sailing" and "Riding On the Wind." "Sailing" would reached number one on the Billboard charts for pop singles, while "Riding On the Wind" hit number 2. The album would peak at number 6, but more notably received a lot of attention from the Grammy® Awards. The 1981 Grammys® praised Cross' album awarding it the four major general awards - Record of the Year for "Sailing", Album of the Year, Song of the Year for "Sailing" and Best New Artist. This is the only time in the Award's history that one artist has won the four major awards. Cross also took home the Best Arrangement Grammy® for "Sailing" totaling five awards that year.

1981 would continue to be a big year for Cross as he also went on to win the Academy® Awards's Best Song for "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" featured in the film "Arthur." The song would also earn Christopher a Golden Globe® for Best Original Song.

Since that fantastic year, Cross has recorded numerous albums and continues to be a force in the adult contemporary genre.
