Lexington Philharmonic

The Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra began in 1961 as the Central Kentucky Philharmonic Orchestra, a group of 65 volunteer musicians who performed 3 subscription concerts in their first year.
The orchestra was composed primarily of music faculty from the University of Kentucky, Morehead State University, Eastern Kentucky University, and Fayette County Public Schools, as well as graduates of the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra. The orchestra soon adopted the name Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra and quickly became the region’s preeminent symphony orchestra. --lexphil.org
