Louise Vickerman

Louise Vickerman, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, was appointed Principal Harpist of the Utah Symphony in January 1999 after having held the same position with the San Antonio Symphony and New World Symphony. She has also performed with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony and most recently as the principal harpist for the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in CA and the Grand Teton Music Festival. She has participated in numerous festivals here and abroad including the Park City International Music Festival, Colorado Music Festival, the BBC London Proms, the Aldeburgh Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival.

As a soloist she has appeared with the Utah Symphony, the San Antonio Symphony, The National Repertory Orchestra, The Orchestra of St. John's Smith Square(UK), on Norwegian National and BBC Radio and at the Heidelberg Castle Festival, Germany. She appeared in recital with violinist Cho-Liang Lin at the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder and in 1998 she gave the world premiere of "Awuya", a new work for solo harp by the renown British composer Sally Beamish. Additional solo appearances include featured artist on the Nova Chamber Music Series and at the Assembly Hall for the Temple Square Concert Series.

Ms. Vickerman was appointed the interim director of Harp Studies at Brigham Young University for the 2005-06 academic year and currently holds the permanent post of Adjunct Professor of Harp at Weber State University in Ogden. She has presented master classes at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and was guest clinician for their summer program 'The Practical Harpist'. She also maintains a private teaching studio and has coached the harp sections of the Utah Youth Symphony and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland.

She received her M.Mus from the Eastman School of Music as a student of Kathleen Bride and her BA and Certificate of Postgraduate Studies from Glasgow University and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, studying with Sanchia Pielou and Karen Vaughan. She has received awards from the Scottish International Education Trust and the James Milne Memorial Trust (STUC).

Louise is also a private pilot (PPL-ASEL as of Oct.'08!) and her other various hobbies include trap shooting, gardening and skiing in addition to flying her husband Peter Margulies (trumpet, Utah Symphony) around the skies of Utah and beyond!
