The 1925 "Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ" was directed by Fred Niblo and is entered in the National Film Registry. Silent Era hearthrob Ramon Novarro stars as Judah Ben-Hur, and the imposing Francis X. Bushman plays his rival (and former childhood friend), the implacable Messala.
