On Dec. 8, 1812, an earthquake struck the Great Stone Church at Mission San Juan Capistrano, killing 42 souls. Native American tribes, especially members of the Juaneno Band of Mission Indians, Acjachemen Nation, and those whose ancestors built the mission, are especially encouraged to attend a remembrance ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at the mission on Dec. 11.
