The Galaxy SUX
Advice first....review second....
If you really must attend a show at the Galaxy....first, eat dinner elsewhere. Also, make sure to have a few drinks before your arrival. Plan on arriving late (after the horribly pathetic excuses for openers the Galaxy dredges from the bowels of rock-n-roll). Arrive already well-fed and well-drank. Go directly to the "dance-floor" and get as close as possible to your favorite band....and don't order or pay for a single item (food or beverage). Just enjoy the show, and hope for decent sound.
Now...on to the review:
It used to be that Mr. Folgner had a clue how to run an intimate and compelling show venue. Unfortunately, the newly re-opened Galaxy is none of that...and WORSE.
One would think revenue to be a driving force behind business decisions. How then does one explain an absolutely barren, almost non-existenet beer selection, priced northward of $5 per bottle....served WARM? It's bad enough there are no decent drinkable beers offered....but...served WARM?? Also, how might an even modestly managed bar "run out" of major brand liqour and then only offer up cheap well-brand garbage?
Bottom line...the drinks SUCK...the food SUX worse (you're better off at drive-thru fast food, than the shoe leather substitutes they serve up under the guise of steak or chicken)...the service is non-existent...over 40 minutes before one can even place a dinner order)...the sound is painfully pathetic (FOH and monitor engineers must come from the same school of thought as other Galaxy staff)....the seating is worse than a multi-purpose room at an elementary school (if Folgner paid over $3 per chair, he was robbed)....the staff is arrogant and apathetic (and did I mention SLLOOOWW)...the management could absolutely care less....
Need I continue??
Skip this place in favor of a venue and staff that appreciate your choice to spend your hard-earned money, and go see a decent local band at the Dubliner in Tustin (GREAT food, beer, booze, service and management), or a touring band the Grove of Anaheim (similarly spectacular food, booze, and service) or even head up to Club Nokia in L.A. for a real and well-managed intimate concert venue (again, GREAT service, booze and food and sound).
Folgner needs to fold this hand and concentrate on only the Coach House....which, one might expect or assume has or may be headed in a similar direction since the re-opening of the Galaxy??!!
Somehow, the talent, ability, passion, concentration, and / or the fortitude to effectively manage 2 venues at once is missing. Did I mention: The Galaxy SUX. Hey, great stage though...but lose the poles.
